Emergent to Provide 'Knowledge Connectors' Through Siemens PLM Partnership

Emergent Systems, the market leader in Engineering Knowledge Management, today announced it has entered into a partnership agreement with Siemens PLM Software, a business unit of the Siemens Industry Automation Division and leading global provider of product lifecycle management (PLM) software and services.

Emergent Systems joins the Siemens Solution Partner Program as a Software and Technology Partner to provide clients within the Siemens PLM Software user community with the best in class solution for Enterprise Engineering Knowledge Management. Under the terms of the agreement Emergent Systems will market its 'Connector' applications which enable the flow of technical know-how from Emergent's Engineering Knowledge Management solution into NXT software and TeamcenterR software, Siemens PLM Software's flagship applications for digital product development and digital lifecycle management respectively. The result is a line of 'Knowledge Enabled' engineering tools available to customers starting in the third quarter of 2009

The current economic realities facing engineering leadership demand an innovative approach to all phases of engineering," said Jeff Moffa, VP at Emergent Systems. "This manifest imperative reaches beyond the need for incremental improvement; required is a fundamental and game changing approach to engineering, a change that produces significant increases in both product quality and engineering process efficiency.

"The cornerstone of the Siemens PLM Software and Emergent Systems' technology combination is the ability to retain and dynamically deliver engineering 'know-how' into engineering processes where it is integrated into the fabric of individual engineering workflows.Integrated 'Know-how' leads to the game changing benefits of higher engineering productivity, and higher quality products.Emergent's Enterprise Engineering Knowledge Management solution, E2ks, represents a new approach and technology for managing technical know-how across the Enterprise. The solution enables the elicitation and formalization of 'tribal knowledge' into re-useable, actionable, executable, and measurable 'Enterprise Technical Memory'.As a result, the solution represents an excellent complement to the knowledge-enabled logic found in Siemens PLM Software's NX Knowledge Fusion application.

"Siemens PLM Software is pleased to partner with Emergent Systems as part of our ongoing effort to provide high value technologies to our customers," said Rich Ramsey, vice president of Partner and Components Marketing, Siemens PLM Software. "By further expanding upon our existing knowledge-based solutions, this partnership will help our customers incorporate more engineering knowledge into their product development processes."

Jeff Moffa, VP Knowledge Systems, Speaks at PLM World Conference in Orlando, FL

Jeff Moffa of Emergent Systems and Ray Kok of Siemens PLM jointly presented at the PLM World Conference. Here is their presentation abstract:

The value of integrating knowledge into the design process through tools like Knowledge Fusion is clear and success stories fairly common. However, as these applications and Smart Parts become more mainstream, the life cycle of the knowledge that is embedded in these tools becomes critical. Currently, two approaches for managing such technical know-how are common: 1) embed the knowledge in Smart Parts and update the parts as technical know changes. 2) Use an external system to manage all technical know-how and dynamically deliver requisite technical know to CAD and PLM tools dynamically. This presentation will look at these two approaches and demonstrate some useful examples developed by the Siemens KF team and Emergent Systems to meet this growing need.

Emergent Systems Awarded Dassault Systems CAA Adopter Partnership

Emergent Systems announced today that it has joined the Dassault Systemes CAA V5 Adopter Program.

The agreement between Emergent Systems and Dassault enables Emergent to distribute a ‘Knowledge Connector’ software which will bridge Emergent’s E2ks and Dassault’s Catia V5. The ‘Knowledge Connector’ will allow Catia V5 modelled parts and assemblies to be automatically infused with the technical know-how managed by E2ks. E2ks may manage a variety of engineering standards which define parametric design boundaries such as ‘min’ and ‘max clearances’, ‘radii’, ‘ratios’, etc. These boundary conditions are automatically created by E2ks through the ‘Knowledge Connector’ as native Catia V5 Knowledgeware components (without intervention by the V5 engineer). This infusion of technical know-how serves to guide the design process and to promote compliance with engineering best practices. Further, the parametric boundary conditions can be tracked in real-time and status can be reported online through E2ks.

“Catia V5 now represents a significant and additional mode by which our enterprise solution for technical knowledge management, E2ks, can deploy technical know-how and engineering standards” said Jeff Moffa, Vice President Emergent Systems. “Systematically deploying engineering standards through a popular CAD system like V5 will provide unprecedented value to E2ks customers and represents a significant step forward toward our vision of ‘Knowledge Aware’ engineering processes.

The Enterprise Engineering Knowledge System (E2ks) is a structured, web-deployed, repository and hub for engineering standards and technical know-how. E2ks not only provides superior retention and refinement of technical ‘know-how’, but also its systematic application to all points of ‘Product’ and ‘Mfg Process’ design, yielding compelling advancements in engineering capability.

About Digital Product Simulation

Founded in 1997, Digital Product Simulation (DPS) has acquired a reputation for excellence when it comes to integrating analysis and simulation in the design of industrial products. Traditionally, two distinct activities within a company--design and simulation--were very often trial-and-error processes that inevitably drove-up product development costs. DPS realized early on that analysis and simulation can play a vital role in improving the design process, while at the same time, produce cost-effective designs more efficiently. By transforming this innovative concept into high-value services and products, DPS helps its clients integrate simulation into the product development process.

DPS has offices in Paris and Toulouse and it employs 80 engineers who are specialists in consulting, methodology, training and software development. Please visit the company's website at www.dps-fr.com
